Here is a list of tips to get the most out of your family photo shoot:
I put this tip as the first one because it is without a doubt the most important one: have a good attitude and disposition for the photos.
The light of the day can be the best, the scenery can be fantastic, the outfit of each member of the family can be spectacular, but if you don't have the attitude to have fun you will surely miss many opportunities, and the other way around, if that day the external conditions are not the best, but if you have a great attitude I guarantee you that your photos will be awesome.
My advice for generating a good attitude is as follows: Talk to the people who will be attending the photo shoot, explain to them in advance how exciting it will be and express to them how much you are looking forward to taking those photos.
In the case of children or teenagers who are not eager to be photographed, you can offer them something in return, such as an ice cream or a trip to a place they want in exchange for their enthusiasm for the photo shoot.
In war, photos and love all is fair game.
In case this is complicated, don't worry, in all the sessions I will be doing my best to create an atmosphere that makes everyone relax and have a good time.
A good rest will always make you look better.
I know that many times our pace of life is hectic, but believe me, if you take a break before your shoot you will look happier and younger.
My advice for a good rest is very simple: get enough sleep the night before your photo shoot. In case the shoot is in the afternoon and you didn't sleep well the night before, maybe take a restorative nap a couple of hours before.
The biggest enemy of photos in Huatulco is sweat and humidity, and of course it couldn't be any other way when you live between 28 and 30Β°C next to the Pacific Ocean.
The first problem with sweat will be that your face can look shiny (like when you just woke up), which makes you look less attractive in your photos.
And although I know how to fix that in Photoshop, we can always avoid that by having some wet towel or flannel at hand to wipe our face. In case you use make-up you should keep this in mind and think of a solution to prevent the problem.
The second problem is that when we perspire, our clothes can absorb the sweat and generate unpleasant stains that will make us look like we have just finished a 10 km race. To prevent this I recommend wearing comfortable but above all cool clothes, preferably ones that you have worn before and that you know don't get stained by sweat.
My main tip to avoid sweating and its various side effects is to do the session at dawn, when the day starts, it's not hot and we are cool as a cucumber.
Although I already mentioned that it is preferable to wear comfortable and cool clothes during the photo shoot, you can always plan what you and your family will wear at the time of the shoot.
My advice here is to get together and choose colours that match each other, so that you look your best.
An additional tip at this point is to avoid clothes with thin line patterns, or clothes that reflect light, as this can create a distortion effect in the photo that will make your clothes look quite strange.
I will usually advise you on a time to take your photos.
My favourite time is shortly before or shortly after sunrise or sunset, not that it's a whim of mine, but those are the times of day when the light allows you to create images with colours and lighting that are more pleasing to the eye. Who wants a pale photo with a white sky? Exactly, no one.
However, if circumstances lead us to take the photos when the sun is at its fullest, don't worry, I'll make the photos look spectacular too, but trust me, the most colourful and vivid photos are at the beginning or end of the day. (If you like movies, you can see this in the best scenes of most films).
My golden tip here is: be on time for the session. Don't do it for me, but do it for the sake of photography. The sun moves faster than it looks, so 10 minutes can be the difference between a good photo and an epic photo.
Before the shoot avoid eating heavy food and remember to stay well hydrated. Our stomach is key when it comes to how we feel, a heavy stomach won't make us feel good and that can show in the photos.
The same goes for hydration, a hydrated person will have a better mood, will feel lighter and that will also be noticed in the photos.
The last but not least of the advice: relax, everything will be fine.
Sometimes we want to control everything, but in reality this is impossible, so we don't have to obsess about it, we have to do our best so that things go well and then flow.
If you follow the above tips, I guarantee that you will have an unforgettable experience as well as some beautiful photos and memories.
Would you add any other tips to the list?
I hope to see you soon!
